Same Day Crowns
Dental crowns are restorations that correct dental problems while protecting and strengthening your teeth.
A dental crown is custom-made to fit over a damaged natural tooth. It restores the function of the tooth and provides strength and support.
We usually create crowns out of porcelain because of its natural appearance and durability. Updated techniques and treatments have made the placing of crowns easier than ever before.
When Are Dental Crowns Used?
Dental crowns have many applications and can be used to correct many problems:
- Severely decayed teeth
- Teeth weakened by root canal treatment
- Fractured or broken teeth
- Broken fillings
- Large, unattractive fillings
What Does Placing a Crown Involve?
A dental crown can usually be placed in one visit. First, we prepare your natural tooth to receive the restoration, and then digital scans are taken of your teeth. The 3D digital scan accurately represents the position of your natural teeth so that your restoration fits perfectly.
We then custom design your crown on the computer so that it will fit perfectly between your other teeth and match up with your bite. A milling machine then mills the crown out a solid block of porcelain. The crown is glazed and fired at approximately 1600 degrees Fahrenheit to give it additional strength and beauty. Finally, the crown is cemented permanently into place.
From start to finish, you can expect this process to take approximately 2 hours. You will leave the office the same day with a fully functional permanent crown! No need to return for another visit or deal with a temporary crown for two weeks!
